World House in Santa Cruz

This family lost everything to the CZU Complex Fire in 2020. Their rebuilt home designed by B.PUBLIC offered a chance to start over with intention, choosing a building system built for resilience, health, and long-term comfort in a fire-prone landscape.

The single-story layout makes the most of its compact footprint, with an open kitchen and living/dining area that flows easily between three decks — front, side, and rear — drawing the forested mountain setting into everyday life. The owner's suite anchors one end of the plan, while a private guest bedroom and bath offer separation without sacrificing the home's sense of ease and connection.
