Artist Retreat at Black Lake
Tucked deep in the mountains of Angel Fire, New Mexico, this secluded artist retreat was designed by our co-owner, Jonah Stanford, with his previous design firm, NEEDBASED, as a sanctuary for creativity and calm. Built by Knutson Construction, the home pairs minimalist design with the robust comfort of B.PUBLIC prefab panels, offering quiet, balanced air, and stable temperatures even in harsh winter storms. The project was an early collaboration with Collective Carpentry, whose partnership began the distributed manufacturing network that includes many wood shops across North America.

💭 Homeowner testimonial:
“I have never lived in such a quiet and peaceful home. It’s amazing to watch a blizzard happening outside my window while I feel completely warm inside, with healthy air to breathe and no variation in temperature throughout the house. I record and edit sound inside the house and the wall panels provide excellent acoustic insulation from the outside as well. I never want to go back to living in a conventionally constructed house again.”
