High desert ‘west’ in Santa Fe
Rendering by B.PUBLIC Studio
Straight from the B.PUBLIC Prefab Design Studio, this B.HOMES ‘West’ plan is taking shape in Santa Fe County as a refined flat roof residence adapted for the high desert. At 1,209 heated square feet with a 563 square foot site built attached garage, the home demonstrates how a semi standard plan can flex without sacrificing speed or performance.
The clients first connected with us in Summer 2025 with clear priorities. Relocating to Santa Fe, they were looking for a home designed from the outset to prevent moisture issues and support low toxin materials throughout. With professional experience in the design and remodeling industry, they brought decisiveness and clarity to the process.
Only seven weeks into construction, the home is already dried in with windows installed. In partnership with Raleigh Henry of Southern Star Builders, now on his fourth B.PUBLIC project, the enclosure moved efficiently from foundation to protected shell. Windows by Pella (Heritage line) are in place, supporting long term durability and performance.
Mechanical systems include a Zehnder America ERV, a high efficiency heat pump, and mini-splits, aligning the project with high performance ventilation and comfort standards.
While rooted in our West plan from the B.HOMES Library, this project illustrates the power of standardization. Even with a flat roof adaptation and attached garage, the timeline remains compressed. A well developed plan, factory built panels, and an experienced local builder create momentum that traditional sequencing rarely achieves.
Inside, the material palette is being curated with intention. The homeowner, Diane Holetz, is launching her independent interior design practice (Interior Dialogue Design) with a focus on healthy building materials and rigorous specification, from sealants and drywall to finishes and furnishings. This home reflects the foundation of that ethos: durable assemblies, controlled ventilation, and healthy materials from the start.
This project is a clear example of how alignment between client, builder, and system can move a home from design to dried in shell in a matter of weeks.
